Marine Conservation Society's Commitment

The Marine Conservation Society is an environmental charity by and for sea lovers. We’re working toward a cleaner, better protected, healthier ocean: one we can all enjoy. Our vision is for seas full of life, where nature flourishes and people thrive.

Working across the nations of the UK and the UK Overseas Territories, we commit to addressing the underlying issues contributing to natures decline and driving climate change impacts, like Ocean acidification.

The marine system of the UK provides numerous nature based solutions to combat climate change these include the vast capability to sequester and store carbon, cycle nutrients, reduce the increasing impacts of ocean acidification.

We are actively restoring vulnerable habitats, including seagrass and Native oysters. Restoring these habitats provides a buffer against OA impacts. We are also addressing marine pollution at source. Reducing the impacts of pollutants such as sewage and causes of eutrophication. Our education and engagement work is empowering local people, communities and volunteers, to take actions that can help restore our Ocean and increase Ocean literacy.

Our work with marine stakeholders and Government agencies, to protect and restore our seas, seeks to secure effective marine planning and deliver effective management for our marine protected area network. Healthy ecosystems, also requires sustainable fisheries management and responsible aquaculture practices. Our work seeks to secure best practices and enable ecosystem recovery for current and future generations.
